Gackern. Dies ist der Name für das bekannte Tok-tok-tok-totoook! schreien. Wenn dies laut und wiederholt wiederholt wird, hat die Henne wahrscheinlich gerade ein Ei gelegt. Die Henne verlässt das Ei und beginnt zu glucksen. Es wird angenommen, dass dies eine Möglichkeit ist, potenzielle Raubtiere vom Ei und Nest abzulenken.
Tok-tok-tok (aber ohne das totoook!) Dieses leicht verärgerte und anhaltende Geräusch wird oft von einer Henne erzeugt, die auf ihrem Lieblingsnistkasten sitzen will, ihn aber besetzt findet. Es bedeutet sowohl "Hier bin ich" als auch "Raus jetzt!"

Cackling. This is the name used for the well-known Tok-tok-tok-totoook! shout. If this is repeated loudly and repeatedly, the hen has probably just laid an egg. The hen leaves the egg and starts clucking. This is thought to be a way of distracting potential predators from the egg and nest.
Tok-tok-tok (but without the totoook!) This slightly angry and persistent sound is often produced by a hen who wants to sit on her favorite nest box but finds it occupied. It means both "Here I am" and "Get out now!"
